I want to take some words here to commemorate the beginning of a new era for my pursuits. I have been making many things happen for some time now and this is going to be the year I get all my interests their fair share of attention. I believe time management is going to be the key to that particular goal. I read this great article in Wired Magazine's January 2009 issue, Diary of a Self-Help Dropout by Chris Hardwick. He writes about his successes and failures using the techniques developed by three separate time management gurus in their respective books. Long and short of it, once you've got those tools at your disposal, you can mix and match techniques to get your desired results.
Time isn't the only thing I intend to manage more thoroughly. My workflow, my project data, even my personal belongings and clothes just simply need organizing and space management. This is why I love computers and Ikea. Both allow you to put an enormous amount of stuff into a small amount of physical space and you get to build both yourself! I enjoy building things. My need to create more, I need to do more to make my artistic whims more accessible.
I really liked the idea of getting a huge warehouse office space with my friends a whole lot. I had an office on Hollywood Boulevard during the summer of 2008 and enjoyed working there, but not having company there was a real drag, espicially sine I was going to trek there everyday from home; where I am never alone for long. A group environment is many steps closer to the ideal situation I imagined for myself. The people, I already get along with on the regular. Plus, it gets me out of the house everyday to make loot. I also realize a benefit to me and the artistic comunity if I do more collaboration works with other artists of other genres. I got the idea from artists such as Midzt and The Seer, who have taken their specialized talents of painting (Midzt) and glassblowing (The Seer) to crossbreed an entirely new art form entirely. I also intend to look thoroughly into openFrameworks and invest in some equipment to push the envelope.
My business is going to become official soon enough. That is another goal of mine for the time frame of 2009. I intend to perfect the juggling of all my projects and tighten deadlines. Better scheduling now comes back into play. In order to be the serious artist I aim to be, I must be more prolific with the time and energy I have. It's important to me considerring how long my to do list is.
I also intend to get an intern for this year. Sum-In-One might know someone who wants to learn and help me get stuff done. If they do a great job, they might even get paid since more money is coming in faster. It would be awesome to have help getting menial tasks done. That would leave more time for more creative pursuits that the intern could also partake in. I have a whole lot of painting to get done, too.
Seeing the Dahli and Max paintings at the art auction on the New Year's Eve cruise I went on was awesome! It totally inspired me to do more of it to boost recognition in the art world and for my own soul's well being. I am always happier when I paint. It is kind of an emotional experience for me. Makes me feel alive. Creative. Full of purpose. I wanna sketch something out now! Thanks guys! That helped a ton! To be continued with a progress report.
